Strictly final 2021: John Whaite ‘doesn’t care’ if he wins or not after breaking boundaries in the competition

John Whaite and Johannes Radebe are set to take on Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice in tomorrow’s Strictly Come Dancing final, but the first all-male pairing don’t care whether they win or not.

The couple appeared on Friday’s It Takes Two, where John broke down in tears watching touching tributes from his friends and family ahead of his final performance this weekend.

The former Great British Bake Off winner revealed that he had had such an amazing experience on the show that winning it no longer matters to him.

He explained: ‘I don’t care about winning! I know I shouldn’t say that, I don’t care – I don’t care if we lift the glitter ball or not because I think we’ve done it. We’ve done it and I’m so proud of us.’

Johannes revealed that winning with a male partner would mean a lot to him, but he is already ‘grateful’ that the voting public have been behind them and got them to the final.

He added: ‘It would restore my faith in humanity. I’m going deep there because that is what [winning] would mean.

‘It’s huge, it’s big, but the fact that we’re here says a lot already so I’m so grateful that we did, honestly.

John and Johannes will only face off against Rose and Giovanni after fellow finalist AJ Odudu, who was paired with Kai Widdrington, was forced to pull out.

AJ had suffered an injury to the ligament in her foot leaving her unable to dance this weekend, with medics warning she could face a year of rehab if she does.

She and Kai were both tearful as they also appeared on the show, where they received messages of support from her friends and family.

The Strictly Come Dancing final airs on Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.
