Strictly It Takes Two: Katya Jones teases lifts in new dance with Nicola Adams have left her with bruises

Strictly’s Katya Jones has teased viewers can expect plenty of lifts from herself and Nicola Adams in their upcoming dance during Saturday night’s live show.

The professional dancer who is partnered up with boxer Nicola this year revealed the pair are tackling the American Smooth this week and while they’re hoping to show off Nicola’s softer side, their routine will be getting a little adventurous too.

Appearing on Strictly spin-off It Takes Two on Tuesday, Katya gave fans a little teaser of how rehearsals have been going so far.

She said: ‘We’re really enjoying it. It’s nice to have time to work on extensions, arms and just breathing together… my arms are a little bit bruised from lifts.’

That certainly caught host Zoe Ball’s attention, as she excitedly responded to Katya: ‘A little tease for us all there! Oh, it’s going to be good.’

‘If you’ve got bruises from the lifts, they’re going to be phenomenal,’ Zoe predicted.

Nicola, meanwhile, said she was looking forward to showing viewers her ‘softer side’ after spending the last few weeks in ‘attack’ mode delivering quick dances like the jive.

She and Katya found themselves in the bottom two over the weekend, but narrowly avoided being sent home from the competition, as the judges voted to give Jason Bell the boot instead.

Revealing that she channelled some of her fighting spirit for the dance off, Nicola said: ‘I got straight into the mode of, “this is the last dance, I need to pull everything out of the bag and leave everything on the dance floor.”‘

The Olympic gold medallist said that finding herself in the dance off had been a huge ‘learning curve’, as she’s not used to having to progress in a competition – with boxing, you either win or lose.

‘It’s very different to boxing. When I get into the ring when I’m boxing, I do the training, I’m up against an opponent and if you’re beating that opponent, you’re the winner,’ Nicola said.

‘Whereas, when you go into a dance competition and you give 100 percent and then it’s like, it wasn’t good enough. There’s loads of different variables that were totally out of my control.’

She continued: ‘It was like a learning curve for me as well, getting used to all that.’

Strictly: It Takes Two airs weeknights at 6.30pm on BBC Two. Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday November 14.
