Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps might be making a comeback on our television screens, but one item stands in their way.
After more than a decade away from the screen, series actor Will Mellor has teased a remake. From 2001 until 2011, the 47-year-old Strictly Come Dancing star portrayed mechanic Gaz Wilkinson with Natalie Casey, Sheridan Smith, Kathryn Drysdale, and Ralf Little, and he’s eager to reprise the role.
Talking about the beauty of the show Will said: ‘We were representing people that weren’t being represented – the working class who just play pool, chat about life and have a few beers. And it’s really nostalgic, which is big at the moment.
‘People love to reminisce about it. It was on for 10 years and a lot of people were on that journey with us.’
Susan Nickson, the show’s original creator, has already written a screenplay, titled Two Pints – Last Orders.
Despite the show’s devoted following, Will claims the BBC rejected the proposal, but he is hoping that another channel will pick it up and there will be no hurdles.
‘The BBC turned it down, but I’d love to see what Gaz and Jonny are up to now. I’m here and I’ve said I’ll do it if we can get the funding,’ he explained to OK!
While we don’t know what Gaz and Jonny are up to right now, we do know what Will and Ralf, 43, are up to.
The buddies co-host the podcast Two Pints With Will And Ralf, in which they share pints, reminisce about the show, and discuss their present lives.
Speaking on their unique bond Will said: ‘We disagree on things and we’re very different people, but he makes me laugh and I make him laugh, so our friendship just works. We still really enjoy each other’s company.’
Sheridan, 42, would also be up for bringing the gang back together.
‘I mean that would be brilliant, Gavin and Stacey did their special which I thought was brilliant,’ she said.‘We might end up getting the Two Pints gang back together, I certainly wouldn’t rule that out one day if everyone’s schedules worked out.
‘It was a great part of my life, and I guess most people have their university years where they go away and do that, but our Two Pints days were like the university years.
‘We all got really close – we were in it for nine years, so it was a big part of my life. Definitely don’t rule out that there would be a reunion one day, although it would be weird because we are all so much older.
‘It would be quite funny to see where Janet ended up. She’d probably have about 20 kids or something, still in the pub.’
Somebody needs to hurry up and get a round in!
Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
