Janette Manrara sent a health warning to her fans after deciding to get treatment.
The host of Strictly Come Dancing spin-off It Takes Two and Morning Live admits to not always taking measures when out in the sun.
Growing up in Miami, she was exposed to warmer climates but seldom used sunscreen, resulting in pigmentation. She has now started a micro-needling course to tackle it, and she has an important message for her Instagram fans.
She told them unequivocally in capital letters, ‘WEAR SUNSCREEN!’ Everyone should apply SPF every day, regardless of the weather, to avoid burning, minimise the risk of skin cancer, and prevent premature skin ageing.
Speaking about her personal experience, Janette stated that this was her second time receiving work to assist with her skin.
‘Had my second session of micro-needling today w/ @theaestheticsdoctor. We’ve been working together to help with my pigmentation from years of not being careful in the sun in Miami! ☀️,’ she wrote.
Her second time in the doctor’s chair receiving the gifted treatment took things further to rejuvenate the skin.
‘We went a little deeper this time w/ the needles, but it was not too painful at all. Now we wait for the skin to naturally rejuvenate over the next few days.
‘I love #DrAhmed because he understands that I want to work on my skin, but as naturally as possible. I’m not afraid of ageing, but if I can give myself a little boost and help, why not?’ Janette shared.
In the accompanying video, Janette, 40, demonstrated the therapy, which left her cheeks crimson. She joked that she was lucky to stay at home for the next several days.
When exposed to the sun, the skin produces more brown pigment, known as melanin, resulting in a tan. In rare cases, the skin does not produce melanin uniformly, resulting in patchy skin coloration, also known as pigmentation.
Her preferred method, micro-needling, involves puncturing the skin with small needles to stimulate collagen production.
Increasing collagen, a protein in the skin, helps to enhance texture. Our bodies naturally create protein, which is also found in bones, hair, muscles, tendons, and ligaments, although the amount decreases with age.
Janette was accompanied to the appointment by another remarkable person: her daughter Lyra. She felt like a ‘proud mommy’ since the child was so well behaved.
Janette welcomed her daughter in July with fellow dancer Aljaž Škorjanec and the besotted parents recently marked her eight-month birthday. They wrote: ‘Happy 8 months of joy w/ you in our lives little one.’
Janette previously competed on the BBC series from 2013 to 2020, partnering with celebrities such as EastEnders actor Jake Wood and singer HRVY on the dance floor. Aljaž, 34, was a dancer on Strictly until 2021. He won the competition in 2013 with model Abbey Clancy.
