Succession season 4 episode 6 demonstrates that Shiv (Sarah Snook) is the one with the huge d**k energy, so much so that she has her secretary book her an empty room in’scheduled sadness.’
Shiv is the only one who calls out Roman’s (Kieran Culkin) and Kendall’s (Jeremy Strong) machinations, accusing them flatly and properly of attempting to derail the GoJo merger with Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgrd).
On the subject of the eccentric Scandi millionaire, who continues to transfer blood to an unrequited love interest despite every red flag, Shiv is also the only one he trusts, and she is the only one making all the power manoeuvres.
Meanwhile, the ghost of Logan (Brian Cox) looms large and quite literally in episode 6, with Kendall bringing back his father in a very creepy AI presentation to promote his new retail venture, Living +.
As the deal with GoJo remains uncertain, here’s a recap of Succession season 4 episode 6.
Shiv and Tom rekindle flame
Shiv confides in Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfayden) in a rare display of vulnerability that she takes regular solitary breaks to mourn over her father’s death.
That display of emotion draws Tom to Shiv, and she is drawn to her former partner when he reveals the extent of his desire for power and money.
Shiv subsequently tells Tom that their new-look relationship is’strictly strategy.’
Tom, with his knowing smirk, believes her just as much as we do. However, there has been no further update on her pregnancy…
Logan Roy makes creepy comeback
Logan would undoubtedly be rolling in his grave when his picture was resurrected for a shaky presentation by his son, Kendall.
Kendall first botches the presentation of Living+, which he says is a living paradise or’sanctuary,’ due to overreliance on the teleprompter.
And it’s made even more unpleasant by Logan’s eerie hologram, with even Cousin Greg (Nicholas Braun) telling Tom, who’s up next with a speech, that all he has to do is’mop up the blood.’
Kendall does, however, find his groove and looks to win over the investors after some awkward banter with his father, particularly after Logan’s Holocaust tweet backfires spectacularly.
Lukas gets his ‘inside woman’
Shiv and Lukas’ connection is only growing as Roman and Kendall continue to exclude her from their business activities and agree on nefarious schemes behind her back.
Shiv, on the other hand, is well aware of their shenanigans and, with family loyalty plainly thrown out the window, keeps a direct connection to Lukas, though sensibly does not admit she’s his ‘inside woman’ when he quizzes her.
Shiv hurries off as Kendall introduces Living+ when she receives a call from Lukas, who wants her to assist wreck the real estate community.
We’re curious where they’ll go next.
Roman nearing breaking point
Roman spends the most of the episode on a firing spree, beginning with a studio executive after a contentious sit-down over ATN’s positive coverage of a political candidate, who calls into the media organization’s morning briefings, is brought up.
When Gerri (J Smith Cameron) learns of Roman’s behaviour and tells him flatly that he can’t just fire people without contacting HR and the attorneys, he turns on her.
As he walks out of the Roman, he brutally asks Gerri whether she wants to deal with her own resignation or if he should find someone ‘a bit smarter’.
While Gerri remains firmly in the Waystar Royco camp, Roman is seen replaying a video of his AI father insulting his son for having a ‘micropenis.’
Grief is different for everyone, we guess.
Succession continues on Monday on Now and in the UK and HBO in the US.
