The first trailer for Superman and Lois has been released, revealing Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) as parents to two adolescent sons.
Superman and Lois, a spin-off to TV network The CW’s December 2019 DC Comics crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths, was first announced in October last year.
The series will follow Clark and journalist Lois as they navigate raising their children in Smallville, uncertain of whether or not they will inherit their father’s superpowers.
In a new sneak peek at the upcoming show, Clark can be heard speaking in a voiceover about how the ‘stress’ of ‘shifting our priorities’ can sometimes make people feel as though they have ‘lost’ themselves.
‘We all begin as one version of ourself, but as we grow, life changes us,’ he says.
‘Every moment shaping our character, shifting our priorities, stretching every fibre of our being until we think we’ve lost ourselves to the stress of it all.’
The Kryptonian continues, explaining that this is ‘not true because under the torn fibres is a stronger person, forged like steel, with the courage to fight for those we love’.
‘And what we thought was lost, can be found. And family,’ he adds.
The teaser provides a glimpse at Clark and Lois’ sons – Jonathan Kent, played by Little Fires Everywhere star Jordan Elsass, and Jordan Kent, portrayed by Alexander Garfin.
The comic-book style one-minute clip shows Superman donning his world-famous suit as he blasts red heat vision from his eyes and grasps multiple ropes, perhaps a reference to the ‘fibres of our being’ being stretched that he mentions.
Tyler and Elizabeth have both depicted the characters of Clark and Lois on multiple occasions before, starring in several shows in the Arrowverse including Supergirl, The Flash and Arrow.
Following the Superman and Lois pilot, the titles of episodes two to five in the series are Heritage, The Perks of Not Being a Wallflower, Haywire and The Beacon.
Henry Cavill stars as Superman in the DC Extended Universe, while Tom Welling previously played the superhero on TV series Smallville.
Superman and Lois is due to air in the US on The CW on 23 February 2021.
