Supernatural season 15 brought the show to an end for good on Thursday night leaving its stars and fans distraught.
The long-running show, about two brothers who hunt supernatural beings, aired its last ever episode on Thursday night.
Of course they had to go out with a bang, and that they did as the instalment, called Carry On, saw Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) die after a bloody fight with vampires.
It came as fans were still reeling from the deaths of Castiel (Misha Collins) and Jack (Alexander Calvert) in the run up to Supernatural’s climax.
Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) was left to try and ‘carry on’ with his life without his brother. In heaven meanwhile, Dean was reunited with their parents.
A time jump into the future followed revealing Sam went on to have a son, named after his brother.
Sam’s final moments as an old man were also shown, in a scene similar to Dean’s death, with his son at his side as he died. The Winchester brothers then went on to be reunited in Heaven.
Star Misha was feeling the pain as much as fans, tweeting a picture of his face, his eyes filled with tears.
Tagging Jared and Sam, the actor said: ‘You just did this to me. I’m going to miss Sam and Dean and #Supernatural. Love you guys.’
‘Goodbye #Supernatural. You changed me,’ he added.
Felicia Day, who played Charlie, tweeted: ‘What a legacy, what a family. #ThankYouSupernatural.’
Jared and Jensen tuned into the episode with fans, with Jensen sharing one last look behind the scenes.
‘“Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;” I don’t think I’m ready for tonight,’ he confessed on Instagram along with a video of himself getting dressed up as Dean.’
Jared shared a photo of himself watching the last episode at home too.
Briana Buckmaster, who played Donna, posted on Instagram: ‘Bye for now boys. Grateful AF for the last 7 years you’ve given me. Time of my life. ? Carry on now…’
The band Kansas, whose song Carry On Wayward Son has become an unofficial theme song to the show among the fandom, shared their thoughts too.
‘The band KANSAS wants to wish the entire cast, crew, and all of #SPNFamily well and congratulations on tonight’s series finale of @cw_spn. The little show that could has had quite the run and created quite the legacy,’ they said on Twitter.
‘KANSAS is honoured to have been adopted as a small part of that family that includes incredibly loyal and passionate fans. Good luck to all & thank you. @therealKripke – we are glad you heard ‘Wayward Son’ on the jukebox those years ago.’
Emily Swallow, who played Amara, also shared a photo of herself crying and said: ‘This is after most of the snot and tears provoked by @jarpad and @JensenAckles dried up, but I’m still wrecked. #CarryOn #ThankYouSupernatural.’
Fans were devastated that their favourite show had come to an end.
‘Beautifully written final episode. I am in tears for sure! Thank you for the last 15 years Sam & Dean.’ one said.
‘This ending will down in history as the most heart wrenching tear-jerker showcasing a relationship as close and beautiful as Sam& Dean’s…’ another wrote.
One tweet read: ‘Hey @JensenAckles and @jarpad you two were absolutely amazing in that last episode.
‘I’m still drowning in my tears and the episode ended 4.5 hours ago. God I just want to give you both big hugs right now. Love you and thank you for Sam and Dean.’
‘For the first time in a very long time I’ve been emotionally wrecked by a series finale. #ThankYouSupernatural for this spectacular finale and for these last 15 years,’ read a further comment.
Jensen and Jared, who have been on the show since it began in 2005, are yet to react post-finale, but we just know it’s going to be a tearjerker.
