Noel Fitzpatrick revealed how Keira’s recovery is going (Picture: Instagram)

Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick has shared an update on his dog Keira after she was left in a ‘critical condition’ following being hit by a van.

The vet and TV presenter disclosed that his beloved pet had been involved in a tragic accident earlier this month, and while she’s ‘not out of the woods yet’, she’s on the road to recovery.

Taking to Instagram to share news of Keira’s recovery, Noel posted a picture of the pooch lying on her dog bed.

‘Dear everyone who cares about my little girl, Keira,’ he penned.

‘I have been intensely humbled and blown away by your outpouring of kindness following her accident. Thank you all so much for your get well soon wishes and for your words of comfort and hope during this very difficult time.

‘She is not out of the woods yet, but she is fighting on and keeping the faith, as am I.’

The post continued: ‘Thank you for keeping her well-being in your hearts and for sending her so much positive energy. She and I are deeply grateful for your compassion and love. I’ll bring more news when the time is right. N x.’

Noel is known for performing some veterinary miracles on his show, with Dec Donnelly thanking the star earlier this year for saving his pup Rocky.

The I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here presenter took to Instagram to praise the vet, who had got his dachshund back to health.

Three weeks ago my little girl, Keira, was hit by a van as we were leaving the practice. It all happened so fast that I still find it hard to believe it happened at all. The accident left her with significant internal organ damage and a badly fractured pelvis – but the Fitzfamily has come together as they do for all our patients to fight for her and do our very best. I can’t thank them enough for everything they have done and are doing. I’m so grateful the entire team was on hand immediately and were able to get her help straight away. Their skill and dedication have undoubtedly saved her life so far. She has been in a critical state and the fear of losing my little companion has been overwhelming. Her outlook remains unknown. We hope, pray and keep the faith that she will be OK. As part of the amazing community of animal lovers around the world I hope we can show support to all who are going through tough times at the moment. I will bring a further update when the time is right. Thank you very much everybody for caring. I deeply appreciate your support at this difficult time. With Love Nx

‘Another thank you to this guy @profnoelfitzpatrick and his amazing staff for looking after Rocky and getting him back on his feet after a run-in with a grumpy fox in our garden last Sunday. Cheeky bugger!’ he wrote.

‘The care and attention from the guys at @fitzpatrick_referrals is so reassuring and comforting. Thanks again everyone. D x’.

Meanwhile, Monty Don thanked Noel for saving his dog Nigel after a slipped disc left him close to death.

Monty wrote in his book, Nigel: My Family And Other Dogs by Monty Don: ‘After a CAT scan, Noel was immediately able to diagnose what had happened.

‘When Nigel had leapt in the air, the acceleration had been so powerful, and he’d twisted with such suppleness, that one of the discs in his back had exploded, partially severing his spinal cord.

‘Noel wouldn’t operate but kept him in the correct position, coupled with hydrotherapy several times a day in the pool.

‘Five days later, we went back and Nigel walked out to the car, tail up, wanting to leap into the back. It seemed miraculous: despite a tremor in his afflicted leg, he was soon running freely again.’

Noel and his practice became the focus of Channel 4’s Super Vet in 2014. It continues to run, and series 15 was aired in January of this year.
