The legendary television show This Is Your Life is set to return, with Susanna Reid and Kate Garraway believed to be in the running to host.
The biographical series, which aired from 1955 until 2003 with a one-off special in 2007, featured guests such as actor Dudley Moore and football manager Matt Busby, who were surprised and then led back through their life narrative using the notorious huge red book.
Carol Vorderman, Ross Kemp, and Loose Women star Denise Welch were also surprised on the show. Eamonn Andrews hosted from 1995 until his death in 1967, and Michael Aspel took over until 2003.
It’s now rumoured to be making a comeback with a female director, with Good Morning Britain actresses Susanna and Kate competing for the post against Fiona Bruce.
An insider said: ‘There is a reason This Is Your Life aired for so many years – as a format, it is perfect. It’s warm, entertaining and interesting plus is fairly affordable to make, which of course helps.
‘Since it last ran properly in 2003 many more celebrities are now worthy of the big, red book treatment.
‘It was always such an honour to appear, bosses are confident a whole new generation of stars will embrace a surprise visit from the team.’
The source added to The Sun: ‘Discussions are underway with a number of potential hosts with a view to getting work underway later this year.
‘A warm, professional interviewer like Susanna or Fiona are seen as the safe hands to steer the next generation of the show.’
This Is Your Life broadcast for 43 seasons on both the BBC and ITV.
The programme astonished both celebrities and average people, but if they knew ahead of time, the show would be terminated.
Jonathan Ross, who appeared as a guest on the show in 2001, was speculated to be presenting a relaunch in 2018.
The Sun reports that Richard Osman has hinted to a potential resuscitation of This Is Your Life, stating, “I got a message from a very big name TV presenter saying they’d just been offered a reboot of This Is Your Life.”
Simon Cowell was the latest guest to be surprised in a one-off special with Sir Trevor McDonald in 2007, and Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly revived it for Saturday Night Takeaway’s 25th anniversary.
