Susanna Reid took a moment on Good Morning Britain the day after the 2021 Tric Awards to congratulate him for winning best news presenter.
After quitting GMB in January, the outspoken TV personality was up against his ex co-star Susanna in the category along with BBC news anchor Huw Edwards.
Piers was triumphant as he picked up the gong on Wednesday night, and shared a picture of himself flashing it on Twitter as he threw up a V sign.
‘Victory!’ he said.
Susanna was equally happy for him after what she called an ‘exhilarating’ five years co-hosting Good Morning Britain.
Speaking about the awards on Thursday morning she said: ‘It was an absolutely lovely moment yesterday where he said it was team work that made the dream work, and invited me up on stage. But it’s down to you.
‘No one has held politicians to account in a more rigorous way than you did, Piers, during the pandemic. Congratulations, very well deserved.’
Piers, who lost out to Ant and Dec at the National Television Awards last week, also reunited with his GMB colleagues Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway on the red carpet.
Kate was another big winner on the night, picking up the Tric special award which was a celebration of her decades long television career.
On Thursday she gave Susanna and Ben a ticking off for not telling her she was about to win.
‘You’re all sneaky liars, you knew but you didn’t tell me!’ she said.
‘It was at the end where I had completely unravelled and my false eyelashes were coming off. I was good on the drink but I just generally unravelled.’
The radio presenter joked that the gong was ‘just for surviving so long’.
‘It felt like a retirement award. It was very nice,’ she added.
