Susanna Reid fought back tears as she watched a video of an elderly couple reuniting in a care home on today’s episode of Good Morning Britain.
The presenter and her co-host Ben Shephard played a clip of a husband and wife, who have been married for 67 years, coming together after they were separated for months due to coronavirus.
Footage showed how they are overcome by seeing each other again and embrace.
Harry Wilsden, 91, could be seen trying not to cry as his wife Doreen, 87, greeted him with a hug and asked: ‘Is it really you?’
An emotional Doreen could then be heard saying: ‘I can’t believe it’s really Harry’.
Susanna was visibly moved by the scenes and her voice cracked as she said: ‘She keeps saying, “is it really you?”‘
Ben added: ‘There’s something really lovely and really intimate about her sitting on his lap, isn’t there? When you look at it, you can imagine the two of them and that pose has been part of their lives since they maybe first met.
‘It’s such an intimate moment isn’t it,’ Susanna added. ‘So lovely.’
Viewers were also left teary-eyed over the video, with one writing: ‘Aww beautiful clip of the elderly couple reunited, my eyes leaked a little.’
Echoing a similar sentiment, another added: ‘@benshephard and @susannareid100 not making me cry at quarter to 7 in the morning :(.’
Doreen and Harry were separated when Harry caught coronavirus and was taken to hospital.
Doreen moved into the Grange Care Home in Darlington as their family had planned, but Harry was unable to move in until he received the all-clear from the hospital.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
