Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Arnold has accused Matt Hancock of ‘breaking rules’ during his time on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
Richard and Susanna Reid had been discussing Babatunde Aleshe’s exit from the jungle on Wednesday’s episode, as he joined the likes of Boy George, Charlene White and Scarlette Douglas who had been voted off by viewers.
As the remaining campmates, including Mike Tindall and Jill Scott. were saying goodbye, former health secretary Hancock was caught telling Babatunde: ‘Will you tell that to Gina [Coladangelo]?’
The comment came after Babatunde told Hancock: ‘You’re so wonderful.’
Gina has been waiting for Hancock’s exit from the jungle with the rest of the campmates’ family and friends who have landed in Australia.
Discussing that clip today on GMB, Richard remarked: ‘Sending a message to the outside world,’ as Susanna questioned: ‘Is that not allowed?’
Richard insisted it wasn’t, saying: ‘Not allowed to send a message to this outside world. Subliminal messages are different.’
He added: ‘I’d be sending a flare up by this point – it’s been long enough!’
Richard then added: ‘There you have it, Matt Hancock breaking rules,’ appearing to refer to Hancock’s affair with Gina when he broke lockdown guidance he helped create.
The former health secretary stepped down from his position last year after CCTV footage of him kissing his aide, and ultimately broke social distancing guidelines.
During his stint in the jungle, Hancock has been grilled over his lockdown ‘mistake’ and said he’s ‘looking for forgiveness.’
Chris Moyles began the conversation, asking Hancock: ‘What’s the plan, come out of here, write a book?’
Hancock replied: ‘I’ve just finished a book – Pandemic Diaries. Does what it says on the tin.’
He added: ‘Tells the story straight. Needs telling. Also, there’s going to be an inquiry. That will tell the story straight as well.’
Jill then hilariously chimed in with asking whether these Bushtucker trials were actually practice-runs for the inquiry, sending the camp into laughter.
Chris then asked Hancock: ‘You got a lockdown fine, didn’t you?’
Hancock replied: ‘No, of course, I didn’t. No I did not. I didn’t break any…’
After Chris interrupted with: ‘You were socialising with someone outside of your household,’ Hancock insisted: ‘I didn’t break any laws. Guidance is different.’
Scarlette chimed in: ‘So there’s a rule and there’s a law,’ to which Hancock replied: ‘Guidance is guidance. But the problem was it was my guidance.’
Scarlette further pressed: ‘Why did you break your own guidance?’
Hancock replied: ‘Because it was a mistake, because I fell in love with somebody.’
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV, and Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
