Great British Bake Off 2020 has announced the winner after a closely fought final between Peter Sawkins, Dave Friday and Laura Adlington.

Tuesday night’s episode took us back to the tent for one final time this year as the remaining bakers battled it out for the trophy.

Each finalist also received lovely video messages from their loved ones who they did not see for almost two months while they took part in the show.

In the emotional episode, the trio had to whip up custard slices (which reduced Laura to tears as hers didn’t set in time), walnut whirls in the technical and a dessert tower as their last ever challenge.

Once again they had to battle against the hot weather which caused meringues to melt.

Their showstopper proved to be trickier still as they had to carefully stack their cakes on top of each other for a towering finale.

Everyone had great feedback for their showstoppers, with Laura pulling it out the bag with her Chelsea buns.

Things looked a little shaky for Peter as his ‘stodgy’ bake was criticised, while Dave impressed with his ‘original, enticing and well designed’ creation that was ‘as tender as anything’. However his choux buns were ‘too flat’.

At the end of a tough day, the bakers gathered together to hear judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith declare Peter the winner of Great British Bake Off 2020.

Feeling elated after his win, Peter said: ‘I can’t quite believe that I’m here.’
