Warning: spoilers ahead for season 1 of Sweet Tooth.

Following the release of new fantasy Netflix drama Sweet Tooth, based on the comic book series of the same name, has cast member Nonso Anozie teased a heartbreaking storyline for season 2?

Sweet Tooth stars Christian Convery as Gus, a young hybrid boy – born part human and part deer – who is hidden away from the world by his father due to the widespread belief that hybrid children are the cause of a virus that has ravaged the world.

Game of Thrones actor Nonso, who plays Gus’ reluctant companion Tommy Jepperd, recently teased what’s to come in potential future instalments of Sweet Tooth while speaking to Metro.co.uk.

Some storylines in the TV adaptation of Sweet Tooth were altered from the comic books, including the fact that in the original source material, Jepperd betrays Gus by handing him over to a scientific facility – whereas in the show, Gus is wrenched away from Jepperd, who’s been shot.

Nonso was asked whether the change to this particular storyline was always a part of the plan for the TV series, or whether that plot point was tweaked… delivering an intriguing answer in response.

‘The great thing about the writers for Sweet Tooth is they’re very clever guys and they are yet to… we’ve got, hopefully, a long time to actually unfold the story of what’s going to happen in the Netflix Warner Brothers Team Downey version of Sweet Tooth,’ he said, referring to executive producers Robert Downey Jr and Susan Downey.

‘So we’re yet to see what is going to happen. So, no comment from me! But, we’ll see.’

Does this mean that Jepperd could end up turning on Gus in the future, despite the close bond they’ve forged throughout their journey so far? And if his betrayal is on the cards… how will fans handle the heartbreaking turn of events?

In the final episode of Sweet Tooth, Jepperd is saved by Aimee Eden (Dania Ramirez), who plans on saving the hybrid children who were previously under her care in the Preserve.

It’s therefore implied that in season two, Jepperd and Aimee will team up to rescue Gus, Aimee’s adopted daughter Wendy (Naledi Murray) and the other hybrid children who have been captured by General Abbott (Neil Sandilands) and the menacing Last Men.

While speaking to Metro.co.uk, Christian, who plays the protagonist Gus, said that he’s looking forward to continuing ‘the legacy of Sweet Tooth and getting to act with other hybrid children’ in future episodes.

Christian also recalled how much fun he and Nonso had together on set, while his co-star recalled how they ‘clicked’ as soon as they met, the day before filming the first episode.

‘We didn’t get a chance to do a chemistry read. We didn’t get a chance to actually get to know each other before we actually started working, so we met the day before we started filming the pilot, and literally clicked from that moment,’ Nonso recollected.

‘We both have Oculus Quests, we both game, we’ve got a lot of different similarities,’ the actor said, explaining how the cast would frequently spend time together off set, sharing dinners and hanging out.

‘I think that camaraderie and that real bond that was off set, I think it really shows itself on set, and I think that’s the great thing that people seem to be responding to,’ he said.

Sweet Tooth season one is available to watch on Netflix.
