The bizarre and brainy Taskmaster is currently airing on Channel 4, the Greg Davies-hosted show now running into its 10 season.
In last night’s episode it was true to form, tasking its celebrities with various challenges and the first task saw contestants Daisy May Cooper, Johnny Vegas, Katherine Parkinson, Mawaan Rizwan and Richard Herring having to solve a puzzle that gave them a phone number to ring in order to progress.
However, unlike most phone numbers on TV, this numbers wasn’t censored.
Instead, the number 07845299563 was broadcast to viewers who wasted little time in trying to call, perhaps expecting a conversation with the Taskmaster himself.
While they didn’t get that, the show had given those who made the effort a little Easter egg. Instead of being greeted by Greg, the caller a message recorded by the show’s creator and the Taskmaster’s on-screen assistant Alex Horne.
In the pre-recorded message, Alex says to the caller: ‘Hello! You’ve reached the Taskmaster…’s assistant. Congratulations on cracking the code!’
‘Your task is to call everyone in your phonebook to tell them how talented you are, how important the big Taskmaster man is, and that they can catch up on all Taskmaster series on All4 immediately.’
Horne then ends by saying, ‘Your time starts… now!’
The message then ends. While it is only a small advertisement for the show, it is a small detail that is sure to bring a smile to most fans.
Taskmaster is in its 10th season, but this year’s outing is the first to premiere on Channel 4.
The show, which previously had a home on Dave, was bought by the network and renewed for six seasons late last year.
The show’s current season is running through to December 17, with the next episode airing on Novermber 12 on Channel 4.
