The Apprentice 2022: Lord Sugar brands task ‘worst failure ever’ as he threatens to fire three candidates

The Apprentice’s Lord Sugar gave team Infinity a scathing review after a series of catastrophic errors led to them failing the most recent task on the BBC show.

This week, the remaining candidates were back, with the task of selling fish to the public as well as high-end corporate clients.

The sub teams were sent off to Cornwall to grab a ‘catch of the day’ with the option of the team back in London being able to sell some of this to their corporate clients.

But Infinity’s project manager Alex Short – who went on to be fired – failed to offer up his team’s catch of the day, which meant losing out on much-needed profits.

They lost the task by a substantial margin, with team Diverse making a profit of £312.42 compared to Infinity’s meagre £116.56.

After their attempt was littered full of costly errors, Alex decided to bring back Akshay Thakrar and Kathryn Louise Burn into the boardroom, as Lord Sugar told his aides: ‘I could get rid of all three of them, to be honest.’

As the trio were called back in to face the music, the Amstrad businessman said: ‘This is, without a doubt, the worst failure I have ever experienced in this boardroom.

‘I cannot get my head around the fact I sent you round to get a catch of the day and you don’t sell it.’

He went on to tell them he was ‘bitterly disappointed’ by their efforts, commenting: ’Alex the target here is the catch of the day, Alex, how can you forget?’ before delivering his verdict.

He said: ‘After your catch of the day, here is my dispatch of the day. Alex, You‘re fired.’

Elsewhere, fans – and the candidates back at the house – couldn’t believe Akshay managed to remain in the process for another week.

After firing Alex, Lord Sugar gave Akshay a warning, saying: ‘I get the feeling since your first task that you were project manager you kind of stand back and let other people fall on their sword.

‘You come in here afterwards and talk 100 miles an hour, go back to the house, you two,’ he told the remaining duo.

Even Akshay himself couldn’t believe his luck, concluding back at the house: ‘To be honest, I didn’t think I would be back, I thought exactly as you guys probably did!’

The Apprentice continues on Thursday at 9pm on BBC One.
