The Big Bang Theory stars Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki managed to power through working on a show together after a breakup, but it wasn’t easy.
For those who don’t remember, the actors dated for two years during the early years of this smash-hit sitcom.
But after the pair called in quits in real-life in 2009, they still had to film romantic scenes on screen as their characters Penny and Leonard Hofstadter.
In fact, Kaley thinks the show’s creator Chuck Lorre deliberately upped the amount of intimate scenes on the show just to ‘f**k’ with the actors.
The actress recalled the relationship on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast as she explained: ‘We dated at the beginning of the show for almost two years. When we did the pilot and I was crushing so hard but he had a girlfriend then.
‘Eventually, we got together and we were mad about each other for two years but then we broke up. Luckily Johnny and I came out of it so brilliantly and we’re closer today than we ever were.’
The 34-year-old then opened up about having to film bedroom scenes after the split as she continued: ‘It was a little sensitive for a minute. But I just remember Chuck Lorre – the genius behind our show – I remember those weeks where our characters would be jumping in bed with each other every other second.
‘Johnny and I talk about it and I think [Chuck] did that on purpose – just to f**k with us. If I was with him, I would ask him because it came out of nowhere. All of a sudden these characters were all up on each other.’
Kaley also opened up about how the pair’s close relationship meant they were able to celebrate their incredible pay packet on the long-running show.
She told Dax: ‘Johnny and I were very close and we were partners in those whole thing so we got to share the celebrations together.
‘I remember after the first [pay] negotiations, we had a lot of the same team so we would get together and have these big meetings.
‘Then after we’d walk outside in disbelief. And we would cry and have these long late-night conversations where we would be balling because he and I both knew this would never happen again because it won’t.’
The Big Bang Theory is available to stream on Netflix UK.
