Could Harrison Ford make a surprise return to Star Wars with a cameo as Han Solo in The Book of Boba Fett on Disney Plus? There might be hope.
Last year, the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian sent Star Wars fans into disarray when Luke Skywalker made a shock appearance, with the de-aged Mark Hamill taking Baby Yoda away to train as a Jedi.
Since then, the idea of another cameo topping Luke’s has seemed like a pipe dream.
Nonetheless, there are rumours that intergalactic smuggler Han could be back, presumably using the same de-aging effect to make Harrison look like the younger version of the fan-favourite character – if the speculation is true.
According to The Sun, the 79-year-old spent three days in London filming a special appearance, having been in the English capital to film the fifth Indiana Jones instalment.
Considering the point at which The Book of Boba Fett is set in the Star Wars timeline, it wouldn’t be too far a reach to imagine Han crossing paths with the bounty hunter or being seen in the background of a scene.
The pair go way back, with Han being the one who fortuitously knocked Boba into the sarlacc pit in the third film of the original Star Wars trilogy, Return of the Jedi.
Boba had been in the midst of a fight with Luke when Han’s swing came out of nowhere, knocking the bounty hunter to his believed demise.
The Mandalorian was set just five years after Return of the Jedi, meaning that when Boba showed up, it had been around the same amount of time since his near-fatal tumble.
While the idea of a de-aged Harrison showing up has excited some Star Wars fans, others have expressed their hope that Alden Ehrenreich will appear instead, having played a younger version of the character in the 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story.
‘Unpopular opinion: I want a grown version of Alden’s Han Solo to show up in the Book of Boba Fett,’ one person tweeted.
‘I know it’s post-OT [original trilogy] which would mean it’s Harrison Ford, but, if done right, I could believe an older Alden. Maybe even in a flashback.’
‘Imagine the Star Wars fandom collapse if Han Solo’s in Book of Boba Fett, but it’s not Harrison ford it’s Alden Ehrenreich,’ someone else stated.
If Harrison were to join The Book of Boba Fett, it would mark a huge turning point for the actor, having famously expressed his indifference to the ins and outs of Star Wars.
During an interview with USA Today in February 2020, he was asked whether Han returned as a Force ghost in Rise of Skywalker, the third film in the sequel trilogy.
‘Don’t tell anyone. I’m not talking loud enough for your recorder. I have no f**king idea what a Force ghost is. And I don’t care!’ he said.
So do you think Han may show up, either played by Harrison or Alden?
The Book of Boba Fett is available to watch on Disney Plus with new episodes released on Wednesdays.
