The Boys season 3: First look as highly-anticipated release date is revealed

Alexa, play The Boys Are Back from High School Musical 3 because, well, they are!

Amazon’s The Boys is returning for a highly-anticipated third season, and there isn’t long to wait for new episodes.

The Emmy-nominated drama will debut on Prime Video this summer, starting with three episodes on Friday 3rd June.

New episodes will then be available each Friday following, leading up to the epic season finale on July 8.

In the short teaser for the superhero series, not much is given away and you’re bound to be left wanting more after watching it.

The tense clip shows antagonist Homelander (Antony Starr) and Starlight (Erin Moriarty) posing for a photo op, but as the camera zooms in on his cheery expression, we get the impression that something sinister is afoot.

Based on the Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson comic of the same name, The Boys explores a world where superheroes use their powers for their own selfish gain.

This leaves a force of vigilantes to keep the all-powerful heroes – known as the Seven – in their place.

‘The Boys is an irreverent take on what happens when superheroes, who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods, abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good,’ says the official synopsis.

‘It’s the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about The Seven, and their formidable Vought backing.’

The first season premiered in 2019 and the show stars the likes of Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, the leader of the vigilante group, and Jack Quaid as Hughie, a civilian who gets caught up in the world of the Boys after his girlfriend was killed by a superhero.

Joining them in the new episodes will be Law & Order’s Miles Gaston Villaneuva as Supersonic, The Boondock Saints’ Sean Patrick Flanery as Gunpowder, Revenge’s Nick Wechsler as Blue Hawk, and The Walking Dead’s Laurie Holden as Crimson Countess.

The Boys season 2 finale wrapped up the battle between Stormfront, The Seven, and The Boys in a surprising fashion, and tied a bunch of characters’ individual storylines together with surprising results.

It’ll be interesting to see where season 3 picks up!

Series 1 and 2 are available to stream now on Prime Video.

The Boys season 3 begins on June 3.
