Channel 4’s The Bridge delivered an almighty twist tonight as it was revealed that two newcomers would have to choose one original contestant to send home.

Ross and Susie threw a spanner in the works as they arrived halfway through the episode to help with the construction of the 850ft bridge.

Not soon after they’d introduced themselves, a flare shot up with information that would change the group dynamic for the foreseeable.

After retrieving the mystery box, the camp found a note addressed to Ross and Susie.

‘New arrivals, you have now been here for 24 hours,’ it read. ‘To make room for you in camp, you need to choose a teammate to leave tonight.’

Uh oh.

Shockwaves were sent around the group as they heard the announcement and it wasn’t long before each contestant had to pitch to Ross and Susie why they should stay in the wilderness.

The pressure became all too much for student Julie though, who couldn’t bring herself to stand up in front of the group.

Instead, she broke down in tears and Sly offered to vouch for her instead.

‘I tried standing up, but I just couldn’t even get any words out and I didn’t even know what to say,’ she said to the camera.

Ross and Susie are set to send one unsuccessful camp mate home in scenes due to air next Sunday, and judging from the sneak preview, it’s a decision they’re not taking lightly.

‘It is important to be a part of the team, to make an effort,’ Susie is heard telling the group.

Which unlucky individual will be heading home?

The Bridge continues on Sunday at 9pm on Channel 4.
