The Chase had viewers and host Bradley Walsh surprised as the show brought together four contestants sharing the name of the Spice Girls.
The producers of the ITV gameshow appeared to be having a bit of fun with the line-up, with Gerry, Emma, Mel and Victoria making up the latest team to take on the Chaser.
We wonder whether Mel was representing Sporty or Scary Spice?
The 1990s-themed panel, whether put together on purpose or not, caught Bradley off-guard.
Chaser Jenny Ryan pointed out the coincidence, saying: ‘Well Brad you’ve done it again, you’ve brought the Spice Girls back together again.’
Bradley appeared confused for a moment before making the connection. He said: ‘I’ve done it again. What is the matter with me? Why didn’t I notice that? I didn’t have a clue!’
There were also several users making light of the mistaken identity. One user joked: ‘Their appearance on The Chase suggests 2020 has been a tough year for The Spice Girls.’
Just the day before another contestant had featured the name Peta-Kay.
Last week, one line-up of contestants also seemed to fall to coincidence as they shared names with famous kings and queens.
Again, it’s not clear if this is the producers having a laugh or if this really is unintentional. It’s certainly more fun to believe the latter, though.
The Chase is currently having great success. The show hit an all-time high of 4.9 million viewers during the debut of new chaser Darragh Ennis. Ennis had previously been a contestant on the show who captured a rare win.
On top of that, a contestant recently won £40,000 in a showdown with Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett.
The Chase airs daily at 5pm on ITV.
