The Chase fans applaud Mark Labbett’s sweet gesture to partially blind contestant: ‘Touch of class’

Those watching The Chase on Thursday night applauded Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett for helping make the game a more equal playing field when he was up against partially blind contestant, Annah.

The Beast is known for his no-nonsense approach on the ITV show, often showing off his frustrations when he performs below his expectations.

But in the latest episode of the tea-time quiz, Mark put his competitive nature aside slightly when he came face-to-face with a visually impaired player.

After contestant Annah won a respectable £7,000 in the cash-builder, it was time for her to face The Beast in the head-to-head.

But those at home noted a way in which the Chaser decided to bend the rules slightly in order to make things more level.

Those watching realised Mark decided not to look at the screen and closed his eyes for the duration of each question.

They took to Twitter to share the kind move, with one commenting: ‘The beast is closing his eyes.’

A fan added: ‘@MarkLabbett was keeping his eyes closed for Annah’s questions – making it a level playing field with consummate respect and integrity shown by The Beast.’

‘@MarkLabbett not looking at the questions against Annah. Touch of class,’ said another viewer.

Annah was delighted as she made it through after her strong efforts in the head-to-head saw her sail through to the final chase.

The trio had a strong final round, getting 19 questions correct in the final Chase.

Despite his best efforts, Mark failed to catch them and they managed to take home the prize pot of £15,000.

The Chaser was graceful in his defeat, telling the team they deserved their victory, after winning £5,000 each.

Fans watching at home were delighted to see Rachel, Annah and Dave scoop the cash, with one saying on Twitter: ‘Love it when they win!!!! #thechase.’

‘Well done to Rachel, Annah and Dave for winning £15,000, a great win #TheChase,’ shared a viewer.

A fan added: ‘Nice to hear Mark say they deserved the cash. Needs to say it more often!  #TheChase

‘Love it when the team wins and nobody goes minus! And Annah got the money she NEEDED!  #TheChase,’ wrote another.

Will tonight’s team be so lucky? Viewers will have to wait and see.

The Chase airs weekdays from 5pm on ITV.
