The Chase Road Trip star Anne Hegerty has stepped into her her ‘diva strop’ after she, Mark Labbett and Shaun Wallace refused to take part in last night’s camping task.
On Thursday, the second episode of ITV spin-off show The Chasers Road Trip: Trains, Brains and Automobiles saw the three quizzers take on children in a host of games.
After all three Chasers were beaten by their young rivals, the brainiacs were surprised with a camping trip.
‘After all that you must be exhausted,’ Anne said as she read out a text. ‘Studies show that fresh air helps you sleep better.
‘Well away from the hustle and bustle of the city, I’ve arranged a bed for the night somewhere special.’
‘We’re not sleeping in a tent are we?’ Shaun quizzed.
Anne replied: ‘We are totally sleeping in a field.’
‘No chance of me sleeping in a field,’ Shaun protested. ‘Absolutely no way.’
As she shook her head, Anne simply said: ‘No.’
In the VT afterwards, Shaun added: ‘I’m a hotel geezer. Fluffy pillows, nice hot running water. I do not do glamping.’
Mark was that unhappy about it, he decided to call his agent.
After some viewers branded The Chasers ‘divas’, explained their reaction was justified as she revealed they had been promised a hotel.
‘So, it’s quite possible that the campsite was actually extremely nice (I have since been told that it was),’ she tweeted.
‘However, we had been promised a) a hotel, b) no more surprises. Ergo diva strop.’
Responding to Anne’s tweet, Mark added: ‘And having been told that autistic people hate being surprised, the producers promptly wasted 90 minutes of our time springing this surprise… it was 6.30 pm and I got Hangry.’
Last night’s show certainly left viewers divided and some couldn’t believe the stars were ‘whinging’ about the camping trip.
‘Whinging wimps. Nothing wrong with camping/glamping. Didn’t even give it a chance..the divas,’ one tweeted,
Another said: ‘Nah I’ve always been a fan of the Chasers and loved the first episode but that was beyond rude and bratty.’
Another viewer said Mark had more ‘diva energy than Mariah Carey’.
‘They didn’t even look at the campsite! It looked beautiful, I would love to stay there,’ one added.
Other viewers were a tad more sympathetic as many agreed they wouldn’t have camped either.
‘Yep I would have called my agent too! I wouldn’t spend a night in that s**t heap,’ one said.
One commented: ‘I wouldn’t want to camp on a farm either.’
The Chasers Road Trip: Trains, Brains and Automobiles airs on Thursdays at 9pm on ITV.
