There will be no mention of Prince Andrew’s acquaintance with Jeffrey Epstein in Season 6.
The final season of the popular Netflix series, which has captivated fans since 2016, will focus on the British monarchy in the 1990s, with James Murray reprising his role as the prince from season 5.
While storyline specifics are being withheld, it is thought that the long-running drama would represent Princess Diana’s death and the wedding of King Charles and Queen Camilla, as well as pay honour to the late Queen.
The Crown, however, will not feature Andrew’s 12-year association with paedophile millionaire Epstein, who died in jail by hanging in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges,.
The couple are reported to have been friends after Andrew’s divorce from Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, in 1996.
Andrew was even seen with Epstein in New York City’s Central Park after the businessman was convicted of petty prostitution in 2010.
In his controversial Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis, the 63-year-old addressed his continuous association with Epstein following his release from jail, claiming that he ‘let the side down’ for the royal family.
He said: ‘I stayed with him … and that’s the bit that … I kick myself for on a daily basis because it was not something that was becoming of a member of the royal family and we try and uphold the highest standards and practices and I let the side down, simple as that.’
Andrew retired from public life in 2019 due to his association with Epstein. He then paid millions to settle a civil sexual assault action with a lady he claimed he had never met.
Virginia Giuffre sued him for allegedly sexually abusing her when she was 17 years old, following her trafficking by Epstein. Andrew consistently disputed the allegations.
Prior to his court settlement, the Queen divested him of all honorary military positions, including Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, and he renounced his HRH style.
In addition to The Crown, Netflix is releasing Scoop, a drama based on Andrew’s catastrophic Newsnight interview, with the prince played by Rufus Sewell.
The Crown is available to stream on Netflix.
