The Ellen Show delays production return due to spike in coronavirus

Production on the Ellen Show has been delayed due to a Coronavirus spike in Los Angeles, it has been confirmed.

The programme has announced that the show is taking a further enforced break, meaning new episodes will now come a week later than expected – on January 11.

The show released a statement [via Deadline] saying: ‘Due to the COVID-19 surge in Los Angeles County, and for the continued safety of our staff and crew, The Ellen DeGeneres Show will push production by a week.’

It comes after Ellen tested positive for Covid-19 on December 10. The presenter announced the news by saying that she was ‘feeling fine’ and that the production was being halted.

The comedian assured fans by giving a health update on social media, saying: ‘Hi Everyone, I want to let you all know that I tested positive for Covid-19.

‘Fortunately, I’m feeling fine right now. Anyone who has been in close contact with me has been notified, and I am following all proper CDC guidelines.’

The production delay follows a challenging year for the show. Several former employees claimed senior producers mistreated other workers behind the scenes, accusing them of rampant sexual assault and harassment

Ellen later responded in a statement, saying she ‘takes full responsibility’ and added: ‘I take that very seriously and I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected.

‘I know that I’m in a position of privilege and power and I realized that with that comes responsibility, and I take responsibility for what happens at my show.’

Some viewers were later left unimpressed when she joked about the allegations upon her return to the show.
