Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May had a bit of a festive fail when it came to switching on their own Christmas lights on the Southbank – as a blown light meant they almost spelt out something very different instead.
The hosts of The Grand Tour presents: A Massive Hunt were hoping to commemorate their special with some unique Christmas lights spelling out the name of the show – but one of the letters failed to illuminate.
Introducing the big switch-on, Richard said: ‘Hello, having produced seamen for you last year, we have a special Christmas present for you this year,’ with James adding: ‘Yes it’s The Grand Tour’s Massive Hunt’.
Jeremy, initially inaudible due to his mask, then said: : ‘…next year Richard Hammond will be appearing as Buttons at the Swindon Wyvern. And now, we must turn on our Christmas lights using this giant button here.’
Maintaining a safe distance from each other – the coronavirus pandemic is still going on, you know – the trio attempted to press the big red button with their umbrellas to avoid touching it.
When they finally managed to get the button pressed, the ‘H’ soon fizzled out, leaving them with a massive ‘unt’ instead.
Jeremy said of the fail: ‘Well that was worth the f**king 9 hour trip across all of London.’
While the light switch-on didn’t exactly go to plan, it’s no surprise considering the capers these three usually get up to.
In The Massive Hunt, Richard, James and Jeremy hunt for treasure in Madagascar with the help of modified cars, one of which Richard managed to write off during the challenge. D’oh.
