The Great British Bake Off: Line-up for Christmas and New Year’s specials confirmed

The line-up for The Great British Bake Off Christmas and New Year’s specials have been announced, with several familiar faces set to return to the tent.

Over the festive period, eight bakers who previously competed in Bake Off will come back to have a go yet again, four for Christmas and another four for the New Year.

For the Christmas Eve special, James Hillery, Jamie Finn, Rosie Brandreth-Poynter and Ruby Bhogal will have their culinary skills put to the test.

James participated in season eight of the series, while Jamie and Rosie competed in season 10 and Ruby was a finalist in season nine.

The Christmas special will also feature a special guest appearance by Alexandra Burke, who will perform a rendition of Silent Night.

For the New Year’s special, which will air a few days after 2021 comes in, Helena Garcia, Henry Bird, Nancy Birtwhistle and Rahul Mandal will be going head-to-head.

Rahual won the ninth series of the competition, while Nancy won the fifth and Helena and Henry starred in the tenth season.

While this year’s Bake Off featured Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas as the hosts and Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith as the judges, Noel will not be appearing in the Christmas special.

This is because Noel’s partner, Liliana Bird, gave birth to their second child in October, while the festive episode was being filmed.

Tom Allen, who features on The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice, will take his place.

‘I was thrilled to be asked to host with Matt Lucas. Finally, bald gay men are getting their chance on television,’ Tom said.

‘Paul and Prue get treated like priests, the bakers walking up, like bowing to them… they were so reverential. It was great fun.’

Last year, the Bake Off Christmas special saw the cast of Derry Girls bake up a storm in the tent, as Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, Dylan Llewellyn and Siobhan McSweeney vied to impress Paul and Prue.

In the end, Saoirse-Monica, who plays Erin Quinn in Derry Girls, was crowned the Star Baker.

The Great British Bake Off Christmas special will air on Christmas Eve at 7.40pm on Channel 4, while the New Year’s special will air on January 3 at 7.45pm on Channel 4.
