The Handmaid’s Tale has returned to our screens after a long time away, with Samira Wiley back among the cast.
The actress plays Moira in the dystopian drama series and stars alongside the likes of Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski and Alexis Bledel.
It’s been a landmark year for Samira away from the screen, with the actress welcoming a baby with her wife Lauren Morelli.
The couple, who met on the set of Orange is the New Black, have become parents for the first time and shared the news of baby girl George’s birth in March.
George’s birth has called some fans to question whether Samira was pregnant while filming the fourth season of the programme – here’s everything you need to know.
The Handmaid’s Tale: Was Samira Wiley pregnant during filming?
While people have been speculating about Samira being pregnant, it was her wife Lauren who gave birth to George, and not Samira.
The pair kept the news a secret, so it’s only natural that fans are a little confused though.
While Samira didn’t carry the baby, Lauren was pregnant while the show was in production.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘Throughout filming, my wife [Lauren] was with me in Canada and she was pregnant the whole time.
‘But not until George came into the world did I really understand what being a parent was and is.’
Samira wrote on Mother’s Day earlier this year to pay tribute to her wife after she gave birth, saying: ‘Happy 1st Mother’s Day to my beautiful wife, who four weeks ago today after laboring for almost 3 days gave birth to our first child—our gorgeous daughter, George.
‘Welcome to the world, babygirl. We love you and we thank you for giving us the best 1st Mother’s Day two ladies could ask for.’
The Handmaid’s Tale airs Sunday nights at 9pm on Channel 4.
