It’s here. After months of waiting for details, the most expensive TV series ever made has released its title and first teaser – with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power set to arrive later this year.

The long-awaited show is taking viewers back to Middle Earth, with a brand new age heading our way.

The series recently wrapped up filming and the title was revealed alongside a new teaser, with showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay saying: ‘This is a title that we imagine could live on the spine of a book next to J.R.R. Tolkien’s other classics.

‘The Rings of Power unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men.

‘Until now, audiences have only seen on-screen the story of the One Ring – but before there was one, there were many… and we’re excited to share the epic story of them all.’

Here’s everything you need to know about the new series.

What’s the plot of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power?

The new series will be set in the Second Age of Middle-earth, before the events of the original Lord of the Rings and Hobbit novels and films.

The synopsis for the show was unveiled in January this year, teasing that ‘heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history’ will be introduced.

‘This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness,’ the summary stated.

Is there a trailer for The Rings of Power?

While a full-length trailer has yet to be released, a new teaser was recently revealed, showing the forging of the show’s title in steel.

It also featured a passage from the books very familiar to dedicated fans of the franchise.

‘Three things for the Elven kings under the sky,’ the voiceover in the clip reads.

‘Seven for the dwarf lords in their halls of stone. Nine for mortal men, doomed to die. One for the dark lord, on his dark throne in the land of Mordor where the shadows lie.’

Who is in the cast of The Rings of Power?

The series boasts an all-star cast, including Sir Lenny Henry, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo and Maxim Baldry.

Owain Arthur and Nazanin Boniadi will also appear, while Saint Maud star Morfydd Clark will play Galadriel – played by Cate Blanchett in the original films.

It’s also been revealed that Simon Merrells will play Trevyn, with further details about the character yet to be confirmed.

When is The Rings of Power released?

The highly-anticipated new show will arrive on September 22 on Amazon Prime Video.
