The Masked Singer champ Natalie Imbruglia on pal Davina McCall’s ‘frightened’ reaction to her win as Panda: ‘She couldn’t wrap her head around it’

Natalie Imbruglia was surprised both Rita Ora and Davina McCall failed to guess her identity on The Masked Singer, despite having known both the panellists for quite some time.

Natalie was crowned the third winner of the most bonkers show on TV when she was unveiled as the secret celebrity behind Panda.

But despite many viewers guessing her identity early on into the show, the panel were fairly slow to get up to speed.

Fans were surprised Rita and Davina – who know Natalie – were unable to realise she was right in front of them the whole time.

Chatting to and other press after her win on Saturday night, Natalie recalled how ‘frightened’ Davina looked when she was finally unmasked, as she was equally surprised they failed to guess her.

Asked whether she was shocked the panel didn’t catch onto her identity sooner, she responded: ‘Yes! I mean, Davina looked frightened, didn’t she?! Because we’re friends.

‘Davina and I have known each other for a very long time and I also have met Rita and we know each other through the industry, so they were the two I thought would have known that it was me.

‘I was really surprised that they didn’t catch on.’

She added of Davina: ‘But that [shocked] expression, I’ve watched it over and over… Davina, she was, I was so far from who she thought it might be that she just couldn’t wrap her head around it!’

Elsewhere, Natalie spoke out on why she decided early on to avoid singing one of her own hits in her Panda costume.

The wildcard move was famously made by A-Ha frontman Morten Harket who appeared as Viking in season two.

But Natalie said: ‘It would have been way too risky!’

‘Judging by the fact that in the first week, things were trending [on Twitter] that I was Panda, I probably made the right call.’

She added: ‘I think I wouldn’t have wanted to risk that because if I left on that particular episode, I would have thought it was my fault!’

The Masked Singer can be streamed in full on ITV Hub now.
