The Masked Singer: Is Poodle Reverend Richard Coles? Fans convinced after huge clue

The Masked Singer fans are convinced they know who is behind Poodle after linking multiple clues to a well-known figure.

This year’s panel of judges – Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan – have been sussing out the mystery celebs behind the mask.

Meanwhile, sharp-witted fans have also been taking their guesses, with a long-held fan theory about the identity of Bagpipes being proved correct on Saturday’s show.

Now those same fans are utterly convinced they’ve figured out the man behind Poodle.

Judging on multiple clues, including Poodle hinting about having a ‘dog collar’, The Masked Singer viewers believe the mystery celebrity is none other than Reverend Richard Coles, a former member of The Communards.

The Church of England priest is openly gay, and is outspoken about his faith and sexual identity, recently condemning so-called conversion therapy.

Dozens of fans took to Twitter to share their theories, including former Gogglebox star and fellow reverend, Kate Bottley, who asked Rev Richard directly: ‘Oi @RevRichardColes are you poodle?’

Rev Kate’s tweet drew dozens of replies from people who agreed they thought it was the former Communards musician, with one person stating they were ‘sure’ it was him and another saying ‘I had the same thought’.

‘That’s my guess,’ one person wrote, while another agreed ‘Omg, I literally just said the same thing’.

‘#Maskedsinger Poodle is Rev Richard Coles (from the Communards)’ one viewer confidently predicted, while another less confident person also asked: ‘Is Poodle Richard Coles?’

So, why exactly are fans linking Poodle to Rev Richard?

Firstly, Poodle stunned judges and viewers with their rendition of Rocketman by Elton John, another gay icon – but there’s far more to it than that.

Poodle hinted on Saturday’s show that they were ‘no stranger’ to a dog collar, like the ones worn by priests.

They also said that they have been doing what they do ‘for years and years’, with Rev Richard having been ordained as a priest since 2005.

As well as this, Poodle claims they were given a ‘light bashing’ in the newspapers, with Rev Richard having previously worked as a journalist.

And, perhaps most telling of all, Poodle is a fan of ‘very long walkies’ – and in 2020, Rev Richard walked from Sutton Bank to Rievaulx Abbey for the BBC series Winter Walks.

The Masked Singer returns Saturday at 7pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
