The Masked Singer UK has left us scratching our brains once more, this time with a cute Owl.
Everyone’s favourite guessing game made a triumphant comeback in 2024, with Rita Ora, Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, and Jonathan Ross on the panel once more, attempting to put together the clues and identify the stars behind the outfits.
Owl made their debut in week two, displaying their singing abilities with a rendition of Kylie Minogue’s popular song, Padam Padam.
While the judges were all in love with Owl’s huge beady eyes, they couldn’t agree on the identity of the celebrity behind the mask, with pop artists and sportsmen both being possibilities.
So, let us deconstruct the hints and speculations…
What clues are there for Owl’s identity?
- Mentioned ‘double trouble’ which means they could be part of a duo?
- A night owl – someone who works late at night?
- Plenty of references to number 11, the amount of players in a football team.
- ‘I’ve been known to have been a source of hilarity, but thankfully my hero was the star of parody.’
Who could Owl on The Masked Singer be?
Alex Scott
The judges believe Alex Scott is the man beneath Owl’s mask, and viewers agree.
Davina McCall got things started by joking that it was’really impossible to tell’ if a defeated-looking Owl was a professional vocalist or not.
‘You, I think, are connected to sport. We saw the football, nine, 10, 11 people in a team, so I think Alex Scott,’ she guessed.
Healey, Chelsee
Mo Gilligan, the comedian, brought Chelsee Healey’s name into the mix, proclaiming, ‘I think I’ve got this.’
His proof includes football allusions and the fact that Chelsea is the name of a club.
While Owl’s attire resembles a school uniform, he feels it is an homage to Chelsee, 35, who plays an actress in Waterloo Road.
Chelcee Grimes
Rita Ora introduced a new Chelcee – Grimes, to be exact.
‘I think, again, football-wise, but the thing that got me was the nocturnal part,’ she explained.
‘Musicians are usually nocturnal, so it could be somebody who also plays football.
‘This person, she writes songs, she’s a presenter, and she played football for Liverpool, I’m gonna go with Chelcee Grimes.’
Frankie Bridge
Jonathan Ross, a TV presenter, was likewise confident in his response, flinging girl band singer Frankie Bridge, 34, into the water.
Referring back to the ‘double trouble’ hint, he reckoned that was an allusion to someone who had ‘been successful twice’.
‘Someone who has been in two bands and they had 11 friends. I counted, in the first band they were in, S Club Juniors, they had seven friends.
‘In the second band, The Saturdays, there were four friends. Seven and four is 11.
‘This person is married to a footballer, Wayne Bridge, I think it’s Frankie Bridge.’
We know Frankie can sing, but is that voice hers?
The Masked Singer continues on Saturday at 7pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
