The Masked Singer revealed Bubble Tea’s true identity. Julia Sawalha is an absolutely fabulous legend.
After Shirley Ballas was revealed as Rat last week, Bubble Tea found herself in a sing-off with Owl, but was eliminated by the judges.
Julia’s Ab Fab co-star Jennifer Saunders was the night’s guest judge, along with regulars Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, and Jonathan Ross, and she was clearly taken aback to be reunited with her on-screen daughter.
Before her big revelation, Joel revealed another clue: a lunchbox with two chickens on ice skates, alluding to Julia’s leading part in Chicken Run.
Jennifer ran down from her stage to hug Julia.
‘I thought you’d guess me immediately,’ said Julia, with the biggest grin on her face.
Explaining why she took the leap to compete on The Masked Singer, Julia said: ‘I wanted to do something that would really take me out of my comfort zone.
‘I like to do jobs that actually I’m really terrified of because then they’re a big challenge. This lived up to that!’
‘The panel’s guesses were just so hilarious,’ she continued. ‘I couldn’t believe they thought I was Hannah Waddingham.
‘I thought Jennifer got pretty close with Bubble (the character from Absolutely Fabulous). I think they did fairly well.’
The studio audience saved Airfryer, Piranha, and the Eiffel Tower, and they will all perform again in their effort to win the fifth season of The Masked Singer.
So far in The Masked Singer‘s 2024 season, Dionne Warwick has been revealed as Weather, Pointless presenter Alexander Armstrong as Chicken Caesar, Strictly judge Ballas as Rat, and Julia as Bubble Tea.
Who will astonish us next week?
The Masked Singer continues Saturday on ITV and is available to stream on ITVX.
