The Masked Singer’s Pat Cash has joked that he’d like to be buried in his Bagpipes costume.

The former Australian tennis star was booted out of the ITV competition series on Saturday night after losing a sing-off to Poodle with a rendition of Dusty Springfield’s I Only Want To Be With You.

Pat grew rather fond of his Masked Singer disguise and when asked whether he’d like to wear it again, he said: ‘Is it wrong to say at my own funeral?’

He added to Daily Mirror newspaper’s Diary: ‘That would sum up my personality. Which not a lot of people other than the ones close to me know. Don’t take yourself too seriously.’

Previous Grand Slam champ Pat became the fourth celebrity to be unmasked after Heather Small, who underneath the Chandelier guise, Gloria Hunniford as Snow Leopard. and Will Young as Lion Fish.

Judge Davina McCall was the only pannelist to correctly guess Pat’s identity, with the sporting ace revealing he joined the show because he is a ‘frustrated rock guitarist’.

‘I had a band for a little while, I call myself the emergency singer,’ he said.

‘Singing I liked the idea that I could focus on myself, ironically it’s strange that seeing the crowd is quite nerve-wracking.

‘I have played at the centre court at Wimbledon and it is just about the most nerve-wracking thing is to coming on here.’

‘I actually enjoyed going on the stage – there is limited vision in the mask and in some ways it was good because I could focus on the lyrics and having fun and nobody was looking at me,’ Pat enthused following his exit.

‘It was an absolute blast, I just went for it, this is my rock star moment people.

‘Keeping it a secret was reasonably tough, from my family, who were asking a lot of questions, this is the whole point, to keep it a secret, and the whole mystery of it all, that’s what it is all about.

‘I’m not the greatest singer in the world, I prefer to hide behind a guitar or a tennis racket, but to get that experience, what a great bunch of people, what a great show.’

The Masked Singer, which is on ITV and ITV Hub, airs on Saturdays at 7pm.
