Sausage has been crowned winner of the second series of The Masked Singer UK, revealing Brit Award-winning singer Joss Stone underneath.

For tonight’s final of the ITV singing competition, Robin, Sausage and Badger went head-to-head in a bid for the crown.

With series one victor Nicola Roberts joining Rita Ora, Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall and Jonathan Ross on the judges panel, the trio had to pull out all the stops to impress them and the audience in the studio.

When Sausage was announced as the winner, the show’s judges and presenter Joel Dommett were unable to hide their amazement.

Viewers at home were similarly amazed, with several weeks of exciting reveals having built up to this big moment.

After winning the competition, Joss explained that it was the perfect time for her to star on the show as she had just ‘received some very exciting news’, as she appeared on the series while pregnant.

‘Also, I am always up for a laugh and this is one of the most funny and happy things someone could do with their time,’ she said.

While many people had assumed Sausage was Stacey Solomon or Sheridan Smith, Joss explained how the clues for Sausage’s identity had pointed towards her the whole time.

When Sausage mentioned their connection to the royal family, this was in reference to the fact that Joss had attended the most recent royal wedding.

If you caught Sausage stating that she had ‘snagged myself a king’, this hinted towards Joss role in The Tudors as Anne of Cleves, the fourth wife of Henry VIII.

Plus, when Dover sole featured in her VT, this was due to the fact that she is actually from Dover.

Earlier on in the programme, Robin was the first contestant to be unmasked during the final, revealing JLS singer Aston Merrygold underneath the costume.

Having performed Stevie Wonder’s For Once In My Life, Aston revealed that he hadn’t told any of his fellow JLS band members that he was taking part in the competition.

‘I loved my outfit and character,’ he said when looking back on his experience on the show.

‘As soon as your mask goes on something takes over and that’s it you’re a whole different… I was about to say person but, yeah, you’re the furthest thing from being a person on this show!’

After Aston, it was Badger’s turn to take off their mask.

It turned out to be American singer-songwriter Ne-Yo, who Rita had been convinced was underneath the costume.

Ne-Yo said that while his costume was ‘terribly hot’ he ‘loved’ the outfit.

‘The Rock n’ Roll Badger has become a part of my life and will forever hold a special place in my heart!’ he said.

Last week’s double elimination saw Harlequin and Dragon go home, the pair just missing out on spaces in the final.

Harlequin turned out to be singer Gabrielle, while Dragon was none other than comedian and presenter Sue Perkins.

The very first contestant to be eliminated in the second series of The Masked Singer UK was Sophie Ellis-Bextor, who performed as Alien in the launch episode on Boxing Day.

Other stars who took part in this year’s show included Spice Girls singer Mel B, football manager Glenn Hoddle and comedian Lenny Henry.

The Masked Singer UK is available to watch on ITV Player.

The Masked Singer series 2: Who is behind each mask?

With the nation more or less confined to their living rooms every Saturday night, The Masked Singer has proven to be something of a lockdown 3.0 saviour. While the performances are of course a draw, most of the fun lies in guessing just who is behind each mask. Here are the clues and theories so far:
