Christmas is a difficult time for staff at The Savoy as they are all torn away from their loved ones throughout the hotel’s busiest months.
In a first-look clip of The Savoy at Christmas, we see the strain of how working through the festive period can affect more than others.
The ITV series, which takes us behind-the-scenes at one of London’s most luxurious hotels, will show us what it’s really like for both staff and guests at Christmas.
However, while the staff are busy ensuring the guests have the best time possible, it means they are sacrificing being away from their own family.
In the short clip, we see how emotional it can get for the workers as it shows one of the butlers in tears, while another staff member can be seen FaceTiming her children.
Restaurant director Anne has to prepare the hotel’s four restaurants and her 160 staff for Christmas, as she hopes that she might be able to take the day off and spend it with her own family for the first time in four years.
‘It’s a very challenging job to make plans, because if I have to be here then I have to be here,’ Anne explained.
‘That’s the nature of the beast. As parents, you can really give yourself the guilts, you feel like you’re not enough.’
The Savoy Grill’s restaurant director Thierry and executive head chef Ben also have to get ready for a busy day as they will be serving up 4,5000 dishes on Christmas Day.
Thierry added: ‘It’s not like a normal day. Of course, I’d rather be at home.
‘But let’s enjoy it. Hospitality is tough – if you don’t keep control of everything, then it’s going to collapse.’
The last series of The Savoy was a huge hit with viewers after witnessing one man spending £10,000 to propose to his girlfriend, while another guest demanded butterfly milk for her tea.
