Here’s an idea: instead of AI taking over the world’s jobs, it should be used to get Homer Simpson to sing an Arctic Monkeys song.
In the viral video, the popular cartoon dad takes the place of the Monkeys singer Alex Turner. Some people have joked that this should be done for good after Glastonbury 2023.
It’s not the first time that AI experiments have led to Homer’s voice being put over a rock band. The Red Hot Chilli Peppers were also given the same treatment.
The video was shared by MemeMusic on TikTok. It has clips from an episode of The Simpsons from 2008 called “That 90s Show,” which is about Homer’s time in college.
The remix of Arctic Monkeys’ 2013 single “R U Mine” is played over the video. It’s hard to believe, but Homer sounds right at home when he “performs” the AM song.
‘Never thought I’d hear Homer with a Sheffield accent but here we are,’ one person commented, perhaps exposing that the AI needs a few updates yet.
A second person also noticed the Springfieldianite’s Yorkshire twang: ‘Homer has a South Yorkshire accent and I don’t know if I should feel pride or fear.’
Someone else said that the movie showed what would have happened if Homer had gone to Sheffield Hallam University to get his degree.
Some people even thought Alex should be replaced forever by Homer, or at least by Dan Castellaneta, who has voiced Homer since the 1980s.
‘Sounds better than modern day Alex Turner’, said the highest-voted comment, while another person said it was ‘lowkey better than the original’.
Ironically, scenes in That 90s Show, which is from The Simpsons’ 19th season, show Homer’s time in college, when he starts a band called Sadgasm.
Sadgasm is a rock band that plays a number of small shows. Eventually, they become famous, and Weird Al Yankovic makes fun of them.
When the Sheffield band’s headlining set on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury 2023 was attacked, many of the band’s fans came to their support.
One person who watched from home said, “That was the worst show I’ve ever seen from them.” Voice control may have gotten better in the last week, but it’s still bad.’
Some of the band’s fans told the people who were moaning that the I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor singer had laryngitis.
