The Voice Kids returns tonight with a new addition to this year’s judging panel, in what is promised to be a ‘Christmas television event not to be missed.’

The annual talent competition, which first premiered in June 2017, sees young singers aged seven to 14 performing to musical coaches Danny Jones,, and Pixie Lott, in a bid to get those red chairs turning.

And this year, Mel C aka Sporty Spice will be joining The Voice family.

But before we get comfy, here’s everything you need to know.

This year’s series sees the return of host Emma Willis and judges McFly singer Danny, American rapper, reigning champion Pixie Lott and newcomer Mel C.

The Spice Girls singer said: ‘I’ve always been a huge fan of The Voice so I am super excited to be a coach on The Voice Kids this year. I can’t wait to get in one of those big red chairs and Spice things up!’

Danny teased viewers that this year’s talent is better than anything we’ve seen so far.

‘Without wanting to sound clichéd – I’m not normally lost for words but there are a couple of battles where I felt so overwhelmed, so blown away,’ he said.

‘I felt I had so many things to say about them but I just couldn’t get them all out. I had so much to say it almost made me panic! I was both trying to control my reaction and trying to tell them how amazing they are.’

Mel C is replacing Paloma Faith after she announced that she was pregnant with her second baby and will not be returning for another series.

Paloma had previously been a judge on the fifth series of the adult version of the show after replacing Jessie J, who left to focus on her own music career.

And it looks like one judge in particular might have a tough time concentrating over Mel C’s arrival.

‘It’s great to be heading back into the studio for a new series of The Voice Kids,’ Pixie enthused.

‘I am the biggest Spice Girls fan, they were the first concert I ever went to, so it’s such a thrill to have Melanie C joining the show too, upping the level of girl power even more!’

The Voice Kids UK will start on ITV on December 27 at 7:30pm, and will run for three episodes.

The three-part special will continue on Tuesday, December 28 at the same time and will conclude on Wednesday, December 28 at 8pm, where the winner will be revealed.

Justine Afante was crowned champion last year in a socially distanced rendition of the competition.

The teenager from Swansea impressed the coaches from the beginning with her captivating take of Never Enough from The Greatest Showman during her audition.

Moments after she was crowned winner, she said: ‘I didn’t think I was going to win.

‘I knew all the finalists were so, so good and I was proud of every single one of them.’

Previous winners of the four series have been Jess Folley, Daniel Davies, and Sam Wilkinson.

The Voice Kids airs tonight at 7:30pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
