The Voice UK: Praise rolls in for Anne-Marie as singer makes debut as new judge

Praise has come pouring in for Anne-Marie during her debut on The Voice UK, with one person saying her appearance on the show is the ‘best thing ever’.

On Saturday evening, The Voice UK made its highly-anticipated return on ITV, with Olly Murs, Sir Tom Jones and returning to their posts.

Following the departure of fourth coach Meghan Trainor, Anne-Marie joined the programme as a new addition to the judging panel.

While many people will undoubtedly be able to recognise Anne-Marie’s dulcet tones from the radio waves, they may not have been able to predict how she would fare as a judge on a singing competition.

But if the launch episode is anything to go by, she’s definitely in her comfort zone sitting in her red spinning chair.

‘Loving new judge @AnneMarie on #thevoiceuk,’ one person tweeted, while another said: ‘@AnneMarie has made the voice 100x better!!!’

Someone else said that the singer has already shown herself to be ‘amazing’ on the programme.

‘I think Anne-Marie is a really good addition to the coaches,’ another added.

Anne-Marie, 29, was also given the opportunity to showcase her vocal talents in the first episode, performing a rendition of her 2018 hit song 2002, which she co-wrote with Ed Sheeran, Julia Michaels, Benny Blanco and producer Steve Mac.

The singer welcomed the first member of her team during The Voice UK’s launch episode, bringing singer Lauren on board.

‘Wahhhooooo welcome to team Anne-Marie Lauren!!!’ she tweeted in celebration of her new powerhouse team member.

Later on in the show, Sir Tom Jones was in for a huge surprise when his close friend and music legend Stevie Wonder made a surprise appearance with a pre-recorded video message to wish him a happy birthday.

‘I feel so very happy to congratulate you as you celebrate 80 years on this planet,’ Stevie told Sir Tom, who welled up as he watched the heartfelt clip.

Stevie also performed a rendition of Sir Tom’s song It’s Not Unusual, accompanying his vocals with a melodious harmonica.

‘I had the pleasure of not just meeting the person who sang that song, but meeting a good friend. And I know that that friendship will last for a lifetime,’ he said, adding: ‘I love you with my whole heart.’

The Voice UK returns next Saturday at 8.30pm on ITV.
