The Walking Dead boss has revealed the team are trying to perfect the return of Rick Grimes.
It has been confirmed the hero, played by Andrew Lincoln, will be making his way back to the franchise with three movies dedicated to wrapping up his story.
But it appears the coronavirus pandemic has delayed production on the hotly anticipated films.
When chatting to Looper, the show’s writer Scott M Gimple opened up on where the cast and crew are at with bringing the much-loved character back to our screens.
He told the publication: ‘It’s been such a weird year in general, even October doesn’t feel like October.
‘There’s so much strangeness going on, but we’re ramping up again. We’re getting started again – which we never did at this time of year, we were usually ending at this time of year.’
Confirming that there might not be too much cross over in the movies with the original series, he pressed: ‘I’m just talking from a COVID-19 point of view, this big chunk of time we didn’t anticipate.
‘I think Robert Kirkman said it best: “We’re using this time to really go over it and really road test it and really consider all the different directions we’re going in.”
‘So, we’re still in the lab in some ways. We’ve done a lot of work on it, but we’re trying to perfect it at the moment.’
And it appears Andrew is in the same frame of mind as he recently dropped a cryptic clue as to what’s happening with the films.
Recalling the moment a fan begged him for an update on the hero’s return, the actor told Collider: ‘All I heard was, “Come back, Rick.” It was so moving. I turned around, and I just went, “We’re working on it.”
‘So that’s my answer to you, we’re working on it.’
We last saw Rick being swept off to safety by Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) in what appeared to be a Civil Republic Military helicopter.
Since then, his girlfriend Michonne (Danai Gurira) discovered his boots on an abandoned ship and left their children, Judith (Cailey Fleming) and RJ (Antony Azor), to go and find her man.
We sure hope they’ll reunite!
The Walking Dead is set to return to AMC and NOW TV next year.
