*WARNING: Spoilers for This Is Us below*
This Is Us has come to an end with a poignant finale that has left viewers in pieces.
The heartbreaking drama, starring Mandy Moore, Chrissy Metz, Sterling K Brown and Justin Hartley, aired its series finale on Tuesday, leaving viewers in floods of tears as The Big Three mourned their mother.
Randall, Kate and Kevin had been left devastated by the death of mum Rebecca in the penultimate episode, following her tragic battle with Alzheimer’s.
Her three children were able to spend her last moments with her before she reunited with husband Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) in death, and the final episode centred on the fallout of losing the matriarch of the family.
The tear-jerker episode saw the family promise they would not drift away from each other as they reflected on the lessons Rebecca had taught them growing up.
It began with a flashback of Rebecca admitting she was terrified of dementia robbing her of her precious memories of the children when they were small.
Throughout the episode, The Big Three were seen as young children playing with their parents Rebecca and Jack, before jumping to the present where they were making preparations for their mum’s funeral.
In the present day, as Kate admitted to her brothers that her ‘biggest fear’ was the siblings drifting apart now Rebecca wasn’t there to tie them down, Randall and Kevin assured her it wouldn’t happen.
The poignant moment led to Kevin assuring his tearful sister: ‘Hey, kid, if you drifted, we would drift right after you.’
After six jaw-dropping series and some devastating moments, fans flocked to social media to share their feelings about the finale, with many admitting they were in floods of tears.
One person wrote the episode had her ‘in shambles’ as she shared a crying emoji after watching the finale, while another admitted the last five minutes ‘broke me.’
‘Just finished THIS IS US… nobody speak to me,’ one wrote alongside a picture of a man sobbing, while another said they had just finished the finale and ‘can’t stop crying’.
‘I am crying uncontrollably oh my god This Is Us,’ one emotional viewer wrote.
‘This Is Us series finale has me crying in the club rn wtf,’ another said, while one admitted they were ‘sobbing and eating ice cream’ throughout the episode.
Actress Mandy, who plays Rebecca, shared a photograph of her character’s funeral booklet and used one of Rebecca’s own quotes to help hurting fans.
She wrote: ‘As we close out the final chapter, let me leave you with this…”Take the risks. Make the big moves, even if they’re small moves.
‘Forge ahead with your lives in any and every direction that moves you. I’m asking you to be fearless.”’
Mandy had previously described the series finale as feeling like ‘a hug’ after the pure devastation of the penultimate episode.
The episode with Rebecca’s death, she said, affected her so much she actually ‘threw up’ after reading the script.
She told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show: ‘I will tell you that the penultimate episode… I threw up after I read it.
‘Maybe that’s just because it’s really close to the bone for me. This has been my life for the last six years…
‘I simultaneously have to say goodbye to the character, to my family and friends on set, and this character is also coincidentally saying goodbye as well, so there’s a lot wrapped up in it.’
She added: ‘The finale is a bit more of a hug,’ Mandy added. ‘I think there’s a little bit more levity.’
This Is Us aired on NBC and is available to watch in the UK on Disney+ and Amazon Prime.
