A This Morning caller broke down in tears after she explained she felt ‘guilty’ for grieving for her dog after her grandson also died.
Speaking to TV psychologist Emma Kenny on Monday’s This Morning, a viewer called Ann from Nottinghamshire. phoned in to tell her heartbreaking story.
She explained that her dog suddenly died after getting ill in October, and on the day of what would have been her birthday, Ann’s grandson also died at the age of 14.
‘My little dog died very suddenly within a few days of taking poorly and she died on the 22nd of October,’ Ann began.
‘She has been my companion, my world, my life, a reason to get up in the morning and I wasn’t prepared to lose her she was only eight years of age.
‘It hit me like someone had thrown a pile of bricks at me and I’d already ordered her birthday present.’
Phillip went on to ask Ann whether she would consider getting a puppy.
Ann then broke down in tears as she replied: ‘Yes, I’ll be honest with you, one is coming next week. I don’t know if I’ll love her as much as I loved my dog.’
‘I feel guilty for having another one in my house when I am still grieving my other dog.’
‘Your dog that you have lost would be devastated to think that you used the love you had for that beautiful animal you lost against yourself,’ Emma chipped in.
‘Don’t see it as a gift from your dog and continue that journey, it’ll be a new one.
‘But I just want to reach out and say I am so sorry about the loss of your grandson, I am so sorry and I think we all feel that way.’
Taking to Twitter after the phone-in viewers admitted to ‘bawling’ their eyes out over Ann’s tragic story.
One tweeted: ‘Omg, poor Ann on the phone in, I get the feeling that her poor little dog died for a reason….to be there waiting for her grandson at the pearly gates so he wasn’t alone, much love to her and her family.’
Another commented: ‘Message for Ann for her terrible loss. We’re thinking of you x.’
While one added: ‘Listening to Ann absolutely broke me and like everyone else I wanted to give her the biggest hug. My son is 14 next week so I’m gonna give him the biggest hug too. I love this idea tho xx.’
