Michelle Elman of This Morning was fighting back tears during the show today as she recounted the moment she discovered her fiancé was cheating in one of the worst ways possible.
The couple had gotten engaged just a day before the 31-year-old author received devastating news that he had been unfaithful, as she revealed on Instagram.
Michelle’s cheating ex has even begged for her back, but she is certain their relationship is over, especially after telling her father.
Despite being firm on her decision to leave him, the life coach still choked up as she said: ‘How do you have a life together? You can’t.’
On the first day she kept his ‘secret’ and only told a select group of people but this quickly changed for her own self respect.
‘He was with me when I got the first message saying “is this person your fiance?”‘ she revealed to hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard.
The duo looked shocked as Michelle continued: ‘I thought it was a colleague, like this person knows you, and it took a while to figure out, my first reaction was shock.
‘I was shaking and I kept saying, “please tell me first. I don’t want to find out from her.” Then it was screenshots of the dating profile and his number, I believed her from the get go, but I needed evidence.’
The woman revealed the hotel where he had stayed, which Michelle had found in their emails before visiting him.
Her ex admitted to the affair and she shared: ‘This was meant to be the best weekend of my life.
‘I went to be with my sister for a week, I had a competition to see who could cry the loudest with my two year old niece. I won.’
Even in her hurt, Michelle let him know the story was going to air on This Morning and added: ‘I don’t want his identity to come out, it’s not a story about him it’s a story about me and women who have been cheated on.’
When deciding what to do, the author only told her sister, who is 12 years older, and a friend who was going through a breakup.
She continued: ‘Then it was 4am the next day and I said, “I can’t stay”. The lying is bigger than the cheating, and the nail in the coffin is 4am the next day I told my dad.’
Cat and Ben grimaced and stated that there is ‘no coming back’ from informing their parents about bad behaviour.
Heartbreakingly, her ex had asked her father for permission to propose just months before.
Michelle added: ‘I don’t judge any woman who wants to stay and work it out, but you need the people in your life to also like him.’
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
