This Morning viewers ‘howling’ as Rochelle Humes’ Wordle attempt descends into chaos

At this point, who isn’t playing Wordle every day, sharing their spoiler-free results on Twitter and comparing their streaks with family and friends?

A day after it was revealed that the free game had been sold by its creator, Josh Wardle, to the New York Times for a reported seven-figure sum, Vernon Kay and Rochelle Humes gave it a go on This Morning – and viewers were left ‘howling’ by their attempts as Rochelle began panicking over the task at hand.

At the start of Wednesday’s show, the presenting duo were joined by Gyles Brandreth, who explained to them how the game works.

For anyone who (somehow) still has yet to play Wordle, the aim of the game is to guess a five-letter word, with players given only six tries to do so.

When you type and enter a word, the letters will turn grey if they’re not in the word, yellow if they’re in the word but in the wrong place and green if they’re in the word and in the right place.

For their first guess, with Rochelle in control of the tablet, they guessed TREAT, with all of the letters going grey.

Not only did they needlessly repeat the letter T when they could have incorporated another letter into their word, they then went for HOUSE next – despite knowing that the letter E was not in the final word.

With H turning yellow and U and S going green, Gyles became mixed up as he incorrectly told Vernon and Rochelle that H was in the right place and U and S were not.

‘So hang on – so U and S are in the right place, is that right?’ a befuddled Vernon asked.

‘No, H is in the right place… oh no forgive me, U and S are in the right place,’ Gyles responded, realising his error.

Rochelle burst into laughter over the mishap, as Vernon joked that Wordle was supposed to be a ‘simple word game that you wake up with every morning’.

But things became even more chaotic when Rochelle typed in MOUSE next – again, despite knowing O and E were not in the final word.

‘This is ridiculous! You’re getting this completely wrong’ Gyles exclaimed, after Rochelle shrieked while continuing to type the wrong letter at the end of her guess.

Fortunately, they finally managed to beat the game on their fifth guess, which was BLUSH.

One viewer said that they were ‘howling’ over Vernon and Rochelle’s Wordle debut, writing: ‘They are me…’

‘Brilliant demonstration on #Wordle there,’ another quipped with cry-laughing emojis, as someone else said that it was ‘too confusing’ for their ‘little brain’.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
