This Morning got off to a slightly terrifying start on Thursday’s episode as viewers were greeted with a slightly different version of hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield than they were used to.
Holly and Phil began the show by introducing the audience to two ‘very cool customers’ – which turned out to be ice sculptures of their own faces.
The camera panned out to show Phil and Holly alongside their sculpture counterparts, and while both hosts continued smiling, the reaction from viewers couldn’t have been more different.
‘This Morning has absolutely killed me!’ one viewer wrote, sharing a picture of the sculptures to Twitter.
‘Yeah… really similar’, one viewer wrote saracastically, while another simply shared a series of laughing and crying emojis and wrote: ‘Christ’!
‘Jesus Christ they’ve done Holly dirty there,’ one person wrote, while another viewer tweeted: ‘That scared me … that’s nothing like Holly!’
It was Holly’s sculpture that got the most shtick from viewers, as it was by far the more terrifying – not helped by the fact the camera continuously zoomed up on it without warning.
(They knew exactly what they were doing.)
One person, sharing a close up, and wrote: ‘The pics of Ice Holly are getting closer and closet and it’s starting to scare me.’
While another added: ‘Ice sculpted Holly looks like she really wants to tell us of all the traumas she’s witnessed.’
The sculptures were unveiled to promote the ice exhibition at Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland, where the artists behind Phil and Holly’s sculptures have massive display in the fair’s Ice Kingdom.
One of the artist collective’s lead sculptors, Jamie Hamilton, spoke to the hosts where he said each sculpture takes around two days to make, from researching to sculpting the piece.
When asked by Holly what would happen if they ‘make a mistake’ with a sculpture, Jamie laughed and joked: ‘We don’t make a mistake’.
The Ice Kingdom exhibition is currently on show London’s Winter Wonderland and features 500 tonnes of ice and snow, including massive buildings made entirely from ice.
It’s unclear whether Phil and Holly’s pieces will be on display, but we’re definitely tempted to go have a look.
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV from 10am.
