This Morning’s Alison Hammond reveals panic attack over QR code as she delivers warning to holidaymakers

This Morning’s Alison Hammond was left having a panic attack after being unable to source her QR code that proved her negative coronavirus test when arriving in Portugal.

The 46-year-old presenter jetted off to the European holiday destination on Monday morning as the country reopened its borders to tourists, however, was soon freaking out that she wouldn’t be let through customs after not being able to find her evidence that she doesn’t have Covid-19.

Joining Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield live from her resort, Alison urged viewers to make sure they’ve got backup evidence before heading abroad.

‘When I got to the airport in Madeira, I couldn’t access the website, because I had no Wi-fi, no internet…I couldn’t access my QR code with my Covid test,’ she recalled.

‘So we all know that I’m negative, but you’ve got to prove it with a QR test and I couldn’t access it. So I started having a panic attack, everyone was going through and I couldn’t find my QR code.’

Sharing her pearls of wisdom, Alison added: ‘So literally, my one tip to people would is to take a screenshot of your QR code so you can show it once you get here because it can ruin your whole holiday.

‘Seriously, that’s my one tip. So actually going through with it, I thought it was quite painless, I’m here, it was worth it.’

Travel firms have reported a surge in demand for trips to Portugal, after the Government put the country on its green list for travel meaning people travelling from England and Wales will not need to self-isolate on their return, and are only required to take one post-arrival test.

Countries on the ‘green list’ have the lowest level of restrictions attributed to travelling to them and people do not need to quarantine when they return to the UK unless the obligatory Covid test taken before the flight is positive.

What countries are on the green travel list?

These green countries only apply to English holidaymakers – Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have not yet said when they might ease their travel rules.

  • Australia
  • Brunei
  • Falkland Islands
  • Faroe Islands
  • Gibraltar
  • Iceland
  • Israel and Jerusalem
  • New Zealand
  • Portugal (including the Azores and Madeira)
  • Singapore
  • South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands
  • St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha

When visiting ‘green’ countries, you’ll need to take Covid-19 tests pre-departure and on arrival home, but you won’t be required to endure a lengthy quarantine period on return to the UK.

PCR tests must be booked through one of the Government’s approved providers.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
