Tiger King star Carole Baskin has revealed she and Joe Exotic have never actually had a conversation despite their highly-publicised ‘feud’.
The Big Cat Rescue CEO opened up about how the Netflix docu-series portrayed her rivalry with the GW Zoo owner.
She said on Loose Women: ‘Joe and I never had a conversation. We have still never had a conversation.’
The 59-year-old added: ‘So if they were selling the idea of it being this big “feud”, they had plenty of Joe trash-talking me, but they couldn’t get me to trash-talk him.
‘And every time the producers would try, I kept going back to [how] he’s just one of these people that is abusing these animals, this is a whole industry and this a bigger picture.’
In the series, the pair are portrayed to be fierce rivals, with Joe making sensational allegations about Carole – including that she killed her husband Don Lewis who disappeared in 1997.
She has always strongly denied being involved in his disappearance.
Carole went on to say that she believes she was misled by filmmakers, who pitched the series to her as the big cat version of Blackfish, which investigated the captivity of orcas.
‘Just like everyone else in the world, we sat down and binged it and we were gobsmacked,’ she said.
Filmmaker Rebecca Chaiklin has previously addressed Carole’s claims, saying: ‘I would just say we were completely forthright with the characters.
‘With any project that goes on for five years, things evolve and change, and we followed it as any good storyteller does. We could have never known when we started this project that it was going to land where it did.’
She added: ‘Carole talked about her personal life, her childhood, abuse from her first and second husband, the disappearance of her ex, Don Lewis. She knew that this was not just about … it’s not a Blackfish because of the things she spoke about. She certainly wasn’t coerced.’
The star also spoke on Loose Women about the recent accident at her sanctuary, which saw an employee get bitten by a tiger.
She said the staffer, Candy Couser, is recovering in hospital, and doctors were able to save her arm.
Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness was released earlier this year, and followed big cat collectors and conservationists in the US.
Loose Woman airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV and Tiger King is available to stream on Netflix.
