Richard Hammond has stated that he is ‘a bit wounded’ after his daughter stated that she is ‘scared’ of driving with him.
Richard, 53, presented Top Gear alongside Jeremy Clarkson and James May from 2002 until 2015, when the three went on to broadcast the recently cancelled The Grand Tour.
He’s had several close calls and near-death experiences over the years, including one in 2006 that left him with a brain injury and on life support after losing control of a £2 million Ferrari in Switzerland.
After an electric supercar he was driving crashed and caught fire a decade later, he shattered his knee and had to use crutches for months.
Despite this, he was taken aback when his eldest daughter Izzy, 22, showed her trepidation about driving with dad.
DRIVETRIBE recently videotaped the couple as he taught her how to rally a Subaru.
However, despite Richard’s assurances that the experience would be beneficial to her in the future, Izzy had reservations at the outset.
‘As your father, I’m keen that you learn these skills because if you can control the car when it’s sliding, it will stop you crashing,’ he said.
He then jokingly added: ‘I should know!’
Wasting no time, she quipped: ‘You really should know.’
She then added: ‘I’m actually more scared about getting in a car with you, to be honest, than you getting in a car with me.’
However, her admission looked like it took her dad off guard, with Richard replying: ‘I’m a little hurt.’
Despite this, Izzy continued on and was given a lesson by her father, who could be heard yelling as the car slid sideways in the mud.
But she then indicated she needed professional instruction since he looked to be having too much fun, so Izzy sought advice from a pro at the Phil Price Rally School in Wales.
Sharing the clip of his daughter behind the wheel on his social media this week, Richard captioned it: ‘Uh oh, my girl’s got it bad. And I’m so proud.’
He and his wife Mindy, whom he married in 2002, have two kids, Izzy and Willow.
It was announced earlier this week that The Grand Tour will be ending next year, with a farewell special from their trip to Zimbabwe set to air next year.
Jeremy then confirmed the news by writing on Instagram: ‘Been a busy day. No more Grand Tour after next year but a LOT more Clarkson’s Farm. Which, this evening, is looking extremely lovely.’
Top Gear is streaming on BBC iPlayer, while The Grand Tour is streaming on Prime Video.
