Freddie Flintoff had a lucky escape after almost crashing into oncoming traffic during tonight’s Top Gear.
To celebrate the joy of rental cars, the presenters went on a fly-drive holiday to the island of Cyprus, home to the cheapest hire cars in Europe.
Freddie, Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris, were each given 30 Euros to hire a car for the weekend before they embarked in a series of challenges.
After selecting their cars, the hosts began their first task where they had to race around a track in 40-degree heat through oncoming traffic.
Chris, who was given the task instructions explained to his pals: ‘Time for some hot laps, to see how your hire cars handle summer temperatures, their interiors will now be heated 40 degrees.
‘Windows up, fastest lap wins, oh and watch out for the local traffic.’
Freddie, who drove a silver Suzuki Jimny didn’t get off to the best start as he almost lost control of his car when going around a corner at high-speed.
‘Stay up,’ he can he heard shouting. ‘Oh my word.’
Looking on in shock Paddy said: ‘Oh look at that, oh dear.’
Elsewhere on tonight’s episode, Paddy and Chris also put family cars to the test.
Chris thinks an estate is the best family car, while Paddy has a hunch it’s an SUV. Specifically, the very fast, very powerful Lamborghini Urus SUV.
To settle the argument, they report to the Top Gear test track to find out which is fastest on the Top Gear school run, and which can tow a caravan the quickest.
Top Gear airs tonight at 8pm on BBC Two.
