Trisha Goddard was ‘concerned’ her daughter had signed up for a Love Island-esque show when she found out Billie Dee had landed a place on Channel 4’s The Bridge.

Billie is one of 14 contestants competing in the new reality series, which sees a bunch of strangers tasked with building an 850ft bridge in just 20 days in a bid to win £100,000.

None of the camp mates had any idea the mammoth challenge that awaited them ahead of entering the process, with the task only being revealed during The Bridge’s first episode.

As a result, Billie’s mum was a little bit worried after first hearing her daughter had agreed to take part in the programme,

Speaking exclusively to, Billie recalled: ‘At first she was a bit concerned because obviously we had no idea what kind of show it would be and I think when I first mentioned it to her she was thought it was some kind of Love Island thing and she was really worried about that.

‘When I got out and told her what it was, she was super excited. She’s really proud of me.’

Billie continued: ‘When I was younger, she’d always push me to do things like cadet force and every summer she’d send me on summer camp. I think she just feels really proud that I got to put some of those skills to use.’

Billie revealed to the other contestants that she is the daughter of beloved chat show host Trisha during a game of two truths and a lie in the show’s first episode.

Explaining why she shared her famous connection, the publicist told us: ‘I just wanted to get it out of the way.

‘Thinking back afterwards I thought maybe I shouldn’t have said anything and just kept it private but I just wanted to get on with everyone and I just wanted everyone to trust me, so I thought I’d lay my cards on the table to begin with.’

Sounds like a pretty good reason to us.

The Bridge airs Sundays at 9pm on Channel 4.
